Juxtapose House Design Studio was an “outta this world” idea in 2013. It seemed more farfetched by 2018 for these two working mothers living in two different states. Meet Erika and Silvia, cousins by luck and sisters by heart. Growing up together, sleeping over, and running to the corner store all summer with $1 in our pockets, was the BEST kind of life. Although, they lived in different cities most of their lives, they called each other for anything and everything, including crazy-@$% design trips to Target.

As a mother of 2, Silvia graduated with an A.A. in Liberal Arts and she immersed herself in her home and work life. She married into the military and they became a family of 7. Silvia found her forever home in Houston and runs on espressos in VS tights all day. She urged Erika to move her butt down there too. Silvia loves all things organization and cleanliness. So, her moto is, “a place for everything, and everything in its place.” She went on to start an organization and photography business. She brings her life’s experiences to management of Juxtapose House.

Erika went on to school and work in California. After graduating with a B.S. in Interior Design, with her thesis on how spaces and the environment you live in affects your psyche, she moved to Chicago to work with big firms. She fell in love, became a mom, and couldn’t find an ideal home/work balance in the 2015 design world. She had to create her own. She decided it was time to listen to Silvia and make the move to Houston to finally start their own thing. She has 3 children under 5 and loves the hustle of mom life, but the design world calls. She leads her designs with experiences from the high rises of Chicago and the Victorian homes San Francisco.

Like many mothers and fellow women, their careers and dreams are put on the back burner, on a lite-@$% flame. WE need and want more for our families and ourselves. Juxtapose House Design Studio serves as a vessel to project the passions, experiences, and inspirations of two creators in this beautiful, effed-up world.
